Eastern Ohio Freethinkers We have formed this group as a result of several years of monthly traveling to Akron, Cleveland and Mansfield to meet with fellow freethinkers and humanists. We know there are people in the Tuscarawas valley with a rationalist outlook. We know those people would welcome a chance to get together with friends to discuss the events of today. We know that even in todays internet society there is a huge need for friendships and casual conversations face to face. Since the t …

As human beings, living in this so-called free and secular nation, we have the ability and the right to question, examine and dissect all things religious, all things political, all things philosophical, all things cultural, even all things scientific. Any attempts to silence freethought will only make us think louder!
This group is a nationally recognized chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). We were officially voted in on February 21, 2013. In order to be a member of the Northern Ohio Freethought Society (NOFS), you must be a current, paid member of FFRF. We require proof of your membership before approval of your membership. The group is mandated NOT to lobby for political candidates or laws in any way. The FFRF Chapter Bylaws state this clearly. We will hold Chapter meetings with voting a …

Looking for a "reason based" community? Sick of the sad state of science education and the gullibility of the average person? Since 2008 our members have been making friends, learning, challenging and being challenged with people who like to examine commonly held ideas and beliefs with a scientific eye. Take a break from those who forward dubious alarmist emails or buy into the latest panacea, religious idea, scam or utopian vision based on "truthiness" alone. Hang out for a laugh, write an act …
Michigan Skeptics is a gathering place for Critical Thinkers, Humanists and Skeptics to discuss, debate and to meet casually. A Skeptic is a person that does not take claims at face value. This is a group for anyone interested in getting together with other free thinkers in a non judging environment to talk about the problems religions cause and ways to fix the problem. I would also like to come up with ways to help the community. Basically the same charities a church would provide except with out preaching to people.”
Socrates thought that understanding the perspectives of others made him a more excellent human being. In this spirit, the purpose of the Socrates Café is not to persuade others to our point of view, but to deepen our understanding of the views of everyone who participates. Please join us at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month for the next Socrates Café and another ninety minutes of philosophical exploration.

In the opening words to the preface of the first edition of Critique of Pure Reason, Kant says that our reason burdens us with questions we cannot ignore, but questions we also cannot answer. That's pretty much Philosophy, isn't it? It's got us thinking about those big questions of the universe beyond the reaches of our ability to know the answers with any kind of certainty. Does Philosophy help us better understand the world? Do we think better after studying Philosophy? Did you ever find yours …
For those who feel alone, want and need support, Recovering From Religion is your place. We would meet 1 or 2 Saturdays of the month, and talk about anything that needs to be discussed. Most of all it is a community of your own to help you, hear you, and stand by you.
The primary focus of Recovering From Religion is to provide ongoing and personal support to individuals as they let go of their religious beliefs. This transitional period is an ongoing process that can result in a range of emotions, as well as a ripple effect of consequences throughout an individual’s life. If you are one of the many people who have determined that religion no longer has a place in their life, but are still dealing with the after-effects in some way or another, Recovering From …

Who are we? We are Muslims of varying degrees of religiousness: Some of us are practicing Muslims who simply want to take a more objective look at our teachings. Some of us want to discuss certain tenets of our faith that don’t sit well. Some of us have come to the realization that organized religion isn’t for us and want to discuss why. In a nutshell, we're a group of ex-muslims, progressive Muslims, LGBTQ Muslims, etc, hence the name muslim-ish. We're not the typical "mainstream" muslims, so d …

The Detroit Grassroots Atheism Project (DGAP) has the primary goal of raising awareness about atheism and atheists through direct interaction with the public that we call "street teaching". Project volunteers provide literature and a point of contact between the public and the atheist community. Through this interaction we clear up the common and uncommon misunderstandings about atheism and inform people about what is atheism.

I'm interested in starting a group of Humanists in Northeast Ohio with the intention of becoming a chapter of the American Humanist Association. The goals of this group can't be defined until more progress is made in forming it, but some ideas include social and support activity, hosting speakers and authors, and perhaps some Humanist activism.
Mid Ohio Atheists Incorporated is an organization of like minded people who originally met through the Mansfield News Journal’s website. We wanted to meet and discuss atheism and the separation of church and state in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our first meeting was on March 8, 2009. After we had been meeting off and on for about a year , in April 2010, we decided to start having monthly meetings. Our members are dedicated to making the word 'atheist' an acceptable label to apply t …

The Smartest Atheists in Town Calling oneself an “Atheist” is just the beginning, not the end, of a life-long journey of learning, dialog and discovery. We are a community of atheists, agnostics, and other theistically challenged people residing in the Northeast Ohio area. The goal of this group is to bring local non-believers together in a friendly and comfortable environment where our thoughts can be shared without fear of chiding from ignorant faith-heads. This group was originally founded as the "Drunken Atheists." It seemed like a good idea at the time, but lately I'm much more interested in just connecting with other local atheist. If you …
